Croissant- It is a rich, buttery yeas-ted pastry folded into a crescent shape. Like puff pastry, the dough is interleaved with butter. The white flour dough is cut into a triangle and rolled, then bent to form its characteristics half-moon shape. Like most folded dough breads, croissants are cooked on a high heat so the dough puffs and sets before the butter melts. Croissants are usually served with butter and jam, or they may be filled with almond paste and topped with almond flakes. A savoury variation may be filled with ham and cheese. Croissant dough may be also filled with one or two sticks of chocolate and rolled into a rectangle to make pain au chocolat. In modern-day France, while the plain croissant still rules the breakfast table, its savoury equipment is eaten at any time of the day as a snack.

Method Oven temp: 180 C Mix all the ingredients except the oil and garnishes and leave for 20-30 minutes at least. Place the paneer on a drip pan and bake in the pre-heated oven for about 5mins. Remove from oven, dab with oil and bake again for 8 minutes. Alternatively, you can grill on a griller or a barbecue pit. (The drippings should definitely have a means of escape, or else the paneer will get soggy). Serve hot, garnished with lemon and onion rings. |
